The FURBUS (Food Resilience and Sustainable Eating in Urban Communities) project has officially begun its journey toward promoting sustainable food habits and resilience across Europe. Partners from Lithuania, Greece, and Italy came together in Vilnius for the project’s kick-off meeting, fostering collaboration and charting the path forward.

This innovative European initiative addresses critical issues of food waste, sustainability, and behavioral change in urban communities. With European citizens discarding tens of kilograms of edible food annually, the environmental impact is immense—accounting for 6%-8% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. The urgency of this problem is heightened by ongoing economic and resource challenges across the continent.

FURBUS aims to empower urban populations to adopt sustainable eating habits through knowledge exchange, digital self-education tools, and innovative practices. Key highlights of the project include:

  • A dynamic digital map featuring 60 exemplary practices from across Europe, fostering the exchange of ideas and solutions.
  • An interactive online learning course with 50 micro-learning modules, equipping individuals with practical skills for sustainable living.

By aligning with the EU Green Deal strategy, the FURBUS project not only supports sustainable food systems but also contributes to Europe’s climate goals. This kick-off meeting in Vilnius set the stage for impactful international collaboration, as the project partners work together to shape a more sustainable future for urban communities.

Stay tuned as FURBUS progresses toward meaningful change in food resilience and sustainability!
