ODYSSEAS Project Launches to Support Safe and Ethical Journalism
We are delighted to announce the launch of ODYSSEAS – Open Decentralised System for Safe and Ethical Journalism.
At a time when misinformation, deepfakes, and the loss of content traceability are challenging the credibility of information, ODYSSEAS aims to provide an innovative, open, and participatory response to some of the most pressing issues facing journalism today.
The project focuses on the creation of a decentralised digital platform where citizens will be able to upload photos and videos, while the content will be automatically verified through modern technological tools. At the same time, journalists will gain access to reliable, documented, and ethically produced material, supporting higher standards of transparency and trust in news reporting.
Over the coming months, the project will focus on the development of the platform and its verification tools, the implementation of pilot activities with the participation of citizens and journalists, and dissemination actions in collaboration with the media and technology sectors.
As part of the project, an open knowledge base and practical tools will also be developed, designed to be used beyond the project itself and to contribute to the long-term strengthening of transparency, credibility, and accountability in public communication.
ODYSSEAS aspires to reinforce trust in journalism, strengthen the democratic role of information, and bring citizens and media professionals closer together through safe, ethical, and evidence-based content practices.
The journey has just begun, and more updates about the next steps of the project will be shared soon.
The project is funded by the Bodossaki Foundation, under the programme “Protecting democracy, human rights and the rule of law through an open civic space” (PLATO).
