Aswan, Egypt – December 2024

Action for the Civil Society (AFCS) is proud to announce that our esteemed staff member, Marios Nomikos, had the honor of participating in the 10th Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Community of Practice on Youth Employment in the Southern Mediterranean. The event took place in Aswan, Egypt, from December 15-17, 2024. Marios was invited and financially supported to attend as an individual, representing our commitment to fostering youth employment and sustainable development.

A Gathering of Experts and Change-Makers

This prestigious event was organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and co-funded by the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion). It brought together 70 distinguished participants, including project promoters, implementing partners, and regional stakeholders, all united by a shared goal: advancing employment opportunities for young people in the region.

Key Themes Addressed

Throughout the meeting, experts engaged in insightful discussions on three major themes shaping the future of youth employment:

Green Transition – Addressing the opportunities and challenges posed by the shift to sustainable economies and the skills required to thrive in a green labor market.

Rural Development through Decent Work – Exploring strategies to promote employment and entrepreneurship in rural areas, ensuring economic stability and growth.

Labour Mobility in the Digital Age – Discussing the impact of digital transformation on job mobility and the need for reskilling and upskilling young workers.

Marios actively contributed to these discussions, exchanging ideas with other stakeholders and emphasizing the importance of equipping youth with the necessary skills to adapt to a rapidly evolving job market.

A Unique Opportunity to Shape the Future

AFCS extends our sincere gratitude to the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion), and German Development Cooperation (GIZ) for facilitating this invaluable opportunity. Events like these play a crucial role in shaping policies and initiatives that will positively impact thousands of young individuals and women across the Mediterranean region.

A special thank you is also extended to Aswan University and the Governorate of Aswan for their hospitality and support in hosting such a transformative event.
